Arshavin: No Super Sub

Andrei Arshavin has experienced a number of different emotions in his time at Arsenal, from scoring four goals against Liverpool to costing the Gunners a well earned point against Man Utd last Sunday. The little Russian has gone from the first man on the team sheet to warming the bench in a matter of years.

What’s gone wrong? Arsene Wenger still thinks the answer to that is ‘nothing’ as he has stuck by Arshavin through these hard times, ‘he is still a very efficient player’ and ‘we cannot lose him’ he says. Yet, considering how much of an attacking player he is just one league goal this season is simply not good enough.

The loan signing of Thierry Henry and losing his place to an 18 year old is just rubbing salt in! The secret to his failure has to be his incredible lack of work ethic, every time he loses the ball the biggest attempt he makes to retrieve it, is but a walk. His shooting ability also lacks. Against Leeds in the FA Cup he hit six shots and none of them were on target or anywhere close to going in.

Just last Sunday, minutes after Arsenal had made it 1-1 against bitter rivals Man Utd, rather strangely Oxlade-Chamberlain was subbed despite setting up the goal with a mercurial disguised pass. Worse still it was Arshavin who replaced him. Ironically, he was to blame for United’s winner, putting up a pathetic effort at stopping Valencia burst into the penalty and set up Welbeck.

So, despite constantly not looking like he cares and making tons of errors it unfortunately looks like Arsenal fans are going to have to put up with Arshavin with Wenger standing by him no matter what.

Arsahvin is a useless player, keeping Chamberlain on would of better the much better option seen as Arshavin hasn’t done anything useful for the club, for the last year or so, so it has to be blamed on Wenger!

I think it is finally time for Wenger to think about what he’s doing at Arsenal and where he wants the club to go. If he keeps going on like this with players like Arshavin and even Nicklas Bendtner who’s on loan at Sunderland. Wenger has made some excellent signings over the years such as Thierry Henry and Patrick Viera but Arshavin has undoubtedly been one of the worse. I think they never really replaced Alexander Hleb when he left fot Barcelona. But I think what is most important for Wenger is to find a balance between younger and older players or his Arsenal management career won’t last much longer.

Yes true, except I’m pretty sure Wenger will stay at Arsenal. They’ve had him for near enough as long as United have had ‘Sir Alex Ferguson’
