Peter Moss interview
Art, Culture — By admin on January 23, 2011 9:28 pmWhen we were commissioned to interview the internationally renown ceramic artist, Peter Moss, we felt a little nervous, to say the least, although the venue for the interview, Lincoln’s Collection Museum, is a great place of serenity and, in that sense, helped calm the butterflies.
Peter’s website, www.petermoss.me.uk, is a piece of art in itself! So preparing for the interview was a real pleasure. Anyway, Peter could not have been friendlier or more cooperative – possibly reflecting that much of his career has been in education and, clearly, he enjoys working with young people.
We should also stress that he still is a leading arts consultant and been an artist for over 40 years, having completed various sculptures globally but particularly throughout Lincolnshire.
Peter focuses on three main topics within art, which he finds most interesting to work with. These are: decorative surfaces, sculptural works and architectural works.
Here are some examples of his work that caught our eye:
He was first inspired when he attended the Bournemouth College of Art and Design. His career path then developed, allowing him to become an international artist. He now presents his work in museums and galleries internationally and helps spread his talent through younger and older generations.
He holds workshops throughout the country where he works with groups of people, of any age, and shows them the wonders of art. Peter holds these events because he thinks that art is a major part of growing up. As he explained in our interview, “Art is the first way of communicating; children play with their fingers in colour, paint and mud. I think it is a very important part of growing up!”
To our amazement, he told us that he has recently accepted a commission to produce a piece of artwork for our school! He has kindly agreed to photograph the stages in the work and suggested a further interview when he’ll talk us through the processes involved.
We were left with a clear impression that Peter is a talented man, who wants to spread the joy of art with the world and will continue to encourage any budding artists of today.
