Happy Commercial Christmas
Featured, Lifestyle — By admin on December 7, 2010 10:32 pmSince the turn of the 20th century and the mass use of televisions and radios, Christmas has become a commercialised holiday, with shops advertising their latest offers and goods. What happened to the real Christmas when it wasn’t about the presents but about bringing the family together? Where people gave homemade presents and it didn’t matter what you got. Over the years we have lost this through the commercialisation of Christmas.
Today, Christmas entertainment consists of Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Eastenders and, yet again, ‘A Muppets Christmas Carol’. A 100 years ago people would be making their own entertainment by singing, dancing and generally having fun. Where has this element gone? It’s been destroyed by the need to look at Phil and Bianca’s Christmas rather than concentrating on the one going on around you.
