Top 10 Summer Reads by Joe

Anyone who wants something good to read in the summer will want to read this. Of course, there are only so many books you can read in sixteen years. Even so, picking ten wasn’t easy!

10 – Chaos Code – Justin Richards

This is a book with a clever plot, a nice fantasy theme, but just enough blood and gore to keep you interested. It is a good novel for sophisticated readers and is a book that keeps surprising you with lots twists turns and upsets!

9 – Eragon – Christopher Paolini

A great book for fantasy lovers. This is a book with a great array of characters and no shortage of imagery and imagination. It’s a lot to get through if you’re looking something easy to read but if you fancy a challenge then this is the book for you.

8 – The Bad Beginning – A series of Unfortunate Events – Lemony Snicket

This is the first book in a long, but extremely enthralling series. The plot will make you want to buy all thirteen books in the series (believe me, it will!) The books are quite sad, but if you don’t mind that it’ll be a cracking read for you.

7 – The Recruit – Robert Muchamore

If you’re looking something simpler and much more action packed than the aforementioned novels then this is it. It may be a little simplistic for advanced readers, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat; there is not a boring moment in the novel.

6 – Stormbreaker – Anthony Horowitz

A great spy novel that has everything a James Bond film has… and much more! It’s also much cooler than James Bond or anything else Planet Earth has to offer because it’s about a teenage spy.

5 – Class A – Robert Muchamore

The sequel to ‘The Recruit’, this book is even better, because, the hero, James tries to put Europe’s biggest cocaine dealer behind bars. Sounds interesting? If it does, buy the book!

4 – Harry Potter and the Half Prince – JK Rowling

I know the film was a bit of a flop, but trust me; it is the best Harry Potter book in the series. It answers a lot of the questions about Harry, Voldermort, and in particular Snape but still leaves you wanting more. A book that is certainly worth reading.

3 – Of Mice and Men – John Steinbeck

This is a classic and is only 118 pages long. Is a novel with a social message as well as being a great story with a great plot – that’s why they call it a classic.

2 – Scorpia – Anthony Horowitz

The fifth book in the series, this story answers a lot of question about Alex’s past, and other key characters in the story. It has betrayal, emotions, tension, and of course, action, action, action!

1 – To Kill a Mockingbird – Harper Lee

An impeccable novel that changed American society forever. The book covers racism, segregation, discrimination and justice. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, it’s a terrific story to boot.
